The Data Management Unit situated within the Strategic Information Department of IHVN, is involved in the implementation and supervision of programs, plans, and practices that utilize, enhance and protect patient-level data and information assets. The data management team therefore collaborates with the Health Management Information System(HMIS) by ensuring that patient level data are collected using appropriate methods, and that resulting datasets, reports, charts, models, and other derived products are well managed. The collaboration is geared toward making sure that the organizational data has integrity and is a true reflection of services provided (prevention, care and treatment) in all supported health facilities. The unit ensures that the integration of the datasets and the presentations of these data are credible, representative, and available for current and future needs by updating and maintaining each site's master database monthly. Data from the organizational electronic medical record system is analysed monthly, quarterly, biannually, annually and on ad-hoc basis, to generate output or outcome indicators.

Data Management is also self-assessment is routinely carried out at supported facility level before and after major reporting cycles to guarantee consistency and identify weaknesses.
