IHVN Management Executives Visit JICA

As part of its efforts to provide a world-class infrastructure for research on emerging infectious diseases in Nigeria and surrounding countries, the Chief Executive Office/Managing Director of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN), Mr. Charles Olalekan Mensah visited the Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Nigeria, Okumura Makiko, to explore areas of mutual collaboration and assistance in the area of efficient and sustainable power supply.

During the visit he solicited the support of JICA for the installation of solar power panels and deployment of batteries to its laboratories in the Institute’s International Research Center of Excellence, which is at the advanced stage of its construction along airport road in Abuja, adding that when completed the Center will provide world-class infrastructure for collaborative research works on diseases of relevance to the local community.

imagesHe extended an invitation to Okumura Makiko and her team to visit the construction site of IHVN’s International Research Center of Excellence to appreciate the magnitude of work going on and areas of collaboration especially the provision of photovoltaic panels for sustainable green power supply for the Center.

Chief Representative of JICA, Okumura Makiko expressed appreciation for the visit and assured IHVN team of JICA’s support after reeling out various projects that JICA is involved with in Nigeria especially in the health sector and in the infrastructural upgrade of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), which incidentally IHVN also supports.

On hand to receive the IHVN entourage were JICA’s Project Formulation Advisor, Kinouchi Ryota and In-house Consultant (Health Sector), Mrs. Damilola Graham-Douglas. The IHVN team comprises the Director of Finance, Mr. Debo Olateju, Director of Administration, Mr. Fredrick Hayes, Director of Laboratory Services, Dr. Nicaise Ndembe and Senior Manager, Communications, Dennis Mordi.
