Global Fund Programs

The Global Fund Program Management Unit of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria is responsible for coordinating Global Fund Grant applications, ensuring compliance to Global Fund implementation guidelines and reporting requirements.

The unit liaises with the various thematic units in IHVN and the relevant agencies of the Federal Ministry of Health to develop the work plan and budget for each grant, agree on strategies for meeting the set goals and objectives, ensure timely implementation of approved activities, as well as appropriate documentation of results and achievements. This also includes instituting the process of active grant management and update of relevant grant documents in line with the changing implementation landscape.

IHVN is currently the Principal Recipient of the Global Fund New Funding Model (NFM) Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) grant for the public and private sectors. The National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP) and Health Alive Foundation are Sub-Recipients and the International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Associations (ILEP) partners are Implementing Partners providing technical assistance to the State TB Programs Nationwide. Care and Support for DR-TB patients in the community is being carried out in Adamawa, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Oyo, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Jigawa, Kogi, Plateau, Nasaraawa, Abia, Gombe, Kaduna, Ogun, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Kwara, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In 372 facilities spread across Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Kano, Plateau, Ogun, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Yobe States, IHVN is providing care and treatment for HIV through funding from the Global Fund NFM TB/HIV grant as Sub-Recipient to the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA). Technical support is also given to the Local Government Areas and State Health Ministries by the IHVN state Offices.

From 2009 to 2016, the Institute implemented the Global Fund Malaria Program in Katsina, Ogun, Kwara, Gombe, Akwa-Ibom, Kano, Kaduna, Borno, Kebbi, Plateau, Kogi, Benue and Jigawa States. Cumulatively, 417 public health facilities across 291 LGAs were supported to deliver free prompt and effective malaria services in their various communities.

The Global Fund Program Management unit collaborates with the Grants Management, Finance and Compliance departments to ensure the activities of the Sub-recipients and other partners are monitored and reviewed periodically to ensure that grant resources are well managed. The unit also serves as IHVN's liaison with the funding agency, various Government agencies and parastatals and other internal and external stakeholders involved in Global Fund activities.
