Unit Head
Dennis A. Mordi

The Program Communication & Awareness Unit of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) exists to provide information, improve knowledge and understanding of what the organization does for the benefit of the public, people living with and affected by HIV, TB, Malaria and Cancer and other diseases.

The Unit is responsible for the conceptualization and implementation of all communication programs and activities which support the work of the Institute in mitigating infectious diseases. The Unit's work is extensive and expanding and involves three core desks.

  • Web Content Management Desk:This desk creates web pages and facilitates website content updates, reach and relationships. The desk also develops web page infrastructure and consults with and assists departments with content extraction formats for update of the IHVN website.
  • Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Desk: This section produces treatment education materials for behavior change towards prevention of HIV, TB, and other communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  • Corporate Relations Desk: This segment of the Unit is involved in corporate engagements that promote cordial relations with the media and various publics of the Institute.
  • Social Media Desk: This segment handles interaction on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It seeks to build an online community committed to the provision of quality health services, research and capacity building in West Africa.

The Unit has developed and produced over 100 different information, education and communication materials such as flip charts for patient education, pamphlets, booklets and posters for people living and affected by HIV, and TB, and other diseases to develop favorable attitudes towards prevention of these diseases; and to utilize treatment, care and support services available for them. It has so far produced 46 editions of IHVNnews – a news publication of the Institute. The newsletter which has both printed and e-versions remains one of our best marketing and treatment education tools that tell people what we are doing using interesting stories of people who have benefited from our programs to show the human face of our activities in Nigeria. The Unit has also produced 75 Xpose Display Stands – a unique wheeled treatment education infrastructure for use in waiting rooms of treatment sites to educate clients on HIV/TB prevention, treatment and care. The Unit also uses blurbs, one-pagers, traditional media outlets, the Institute's website to facilitate these activities and promote the vision and mission of the Institute.
