Brief About Bashir Zubayr

Biography

As Technical Director for the Chemonics- led SHARP Task Order 3 Project, which the Institute implements, Dr. Bashir M. Zubayr supports the project Chief of Party with clinical and technical guidance to reduce HIV incidence and AIDS-related mortality.

He provides technical assistance in strengthening state ministries of health across six states in Northwest and Northeast Nigeria, and gives guidance on activities to increase access to treatment and prevention services.

Dr. Zubayr is responsible for coordinating and evaluating activities to rapidly identify people living with HIV, link them to treatment and ensure suppression of their viral load. He also oversees the provision of HIV services to key population, and capacity building of state and local governments. He supervises multi-disciplinary teams of clinicians, technical specialists, and other state staff while working closely with the Chemonics home-office.

He has served in several technical and management positions within the Institute, including IHVN North West Regional Manager, Nasarawa State Manager, Program Lead, Pediatric ART Care, Deputy Regional Manager North-West Region and IHVN Clinical Associate Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. His areas of expertise include, health management, program implementation, monitoring and evaluation, budget administration & analysis, grant research & management and capacity building.

He earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, after which he did residency training at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano. Dr. Zubayr also has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Project Management) from University of Nicosia, Cyprus.

Dr. Bashir is a fellow of the West African College of Physicians, a member of the Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Pediatric Association of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Medical Association. Watching and playing football are his hobbies, and he is married with three children.
