Mrs. Chiagozie Mgbemena oversees pharmaceutical care, supply chain, training and operational research as Head of Pharmacy Unit/ Program Manager of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN). She leads the planning and execution of programs for uninterrupted access to drugs, and quality treatment for HIV and tuberculosis in health facilities supported by the Institute across the country.
Liaising with government, partners, and funders for smooth implementation of the Institute’s pharmacy programs are under her purview. She also supervises the implementation of health initiatives on pharmacovigilance and community pharmacy.
Within the Institute, she has handled procurement and supply chain management for drug-resistant and Extremely Drug-Resistant drugs while participating in the National Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Committee.
Mrs. Mgbemena has about 19 years’ experience in the field of Pharmacy. Before joining IHVN, she served as Logistic Advisor/ Drug Information Pharmacist in AIDS Prevention Initiative in Nigeria (APIN), and Clinical Pharmacist in the APIN site in Lagos University Teaching Hospital amongst other job roles in the private sector.
She is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, where she earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree before proceeding to earn a Master of Science in Clinical Pharmacy from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Mrs. Mgbemena has participated in several trainings within and outside the country, including certification in Supply Chain fundamentals from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
She is a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists, and a member of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria. Her hobbies are reading and cooking, and she is married with children.
