William L. Holzemer, RN, PhD, FAAN is Distinguished Professor, School of Nursing, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Dr. Holzemer is a member of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the IOM), Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, and a member of the Japan Academy of Nursing. He is a former Fulbright Scholar (Egypt), a Project HOPE Fellow and is a Distinguished Professor at St. Luke’s College of Nursing, Tokyo. He served two terms as elected board member of the International Council of Nurses. He has provided national leadership through his participation in national commissions for AHRQ and the Institute of Medicine, and served as a member of the National Council of the National Institute of Nursing Research, NIH. He served as President of the American Nurses Foundation.
He has a distinguished research career in nursing and health focused on symptom management, medication adherence, stigma and quality of life for people living with the HIV infection having received numerous NIH grants and publishing over 200 data-based, peer reviewed manuscript.
