Yes, she can. Many women living with HIV have given birth to HIV free children successfully. We advise that she immediately goes to the nearest public health facility to enroll for antenatal care.

HIV treatment and care is free. She will be guided and commenced on Antiretroviral treatment (HIV medications). She will also be given services to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV. This is free too.

TB kills an estimated 157 thousand Nigerians every year although it is both preventable and curable. TB testing and treatment is free. If you have been coughing for two or more weeks or experiencing weight loss, fever and night sweats, please visit the nearest healthcare facility for free TB testing services.

Through the support of the Global Fund, IHVN has engaged private clinics, faith-based organizations, community pharmacies, patent medicine vendors, medical laboratories and traditional birth attendants in 20 states across Nigeria to screen, diagnose and treat people for TB. Confirmed TB patients receive free course of appropriate treatment at designated TB clinics. In order to be cured, persons with TB symptoms should visit the healthcare facilities for prompt TB diagnosis, and ensure they take TB medications daily as prescribed by the healthcare provider.

It is advisable to know your status too. Go for a HIV test immediately and repeat the test after three months. If the test is positive, you will be started on HIV medications immediately to keep you healthy. Your partner is also to receive free HIV treatment and care services if s/he has not commenced already.

If negative, be assured that there are couples who have lived together for years without infecting their partners. You will be given appropriate counsel at the nearest health facility supported to offer free HIV treatment and care services.

There is currently no cure for HIV worldwide. However, researchers are working hard to get a cure.

We advise people living with HIV to continue taking their HIV medications correctly and consistently. This will reduce the number of viruses in their blood such that they can live healthy and prevent transmission of HIV to their sexual partners.
