Brief About Dr. Stanley Abujah Idakwo

Biography

As the Project Director for Rivers State, Dr Stanley Abujah Idakwo leads the ACTION to Sustain Precision and Integrated HIV Response Towards Reaching Epidemic Control (ASPIRE) project in the state. He directs the entire team in collaboration with stakeholders to achieve the project goals which include reducing mortality of people living with HIV (PLHIV) by providing comprehensive, high-quality, HIV prevention and treatment services.

He is responsible for developing and implementing monthly work plans for the project as well as sharing periodic programmatic reports with management and the funding agency. He continuously works with the Rivers State Ministry of Health on ownership and sustainability goals. Dr. Idakwo has adapted the PEPFAR principles of Adaptability, Resilience and Accountability to guide program implementation for outstanding achievements in the state.

Before managing the ASPIRE project in the state, Dr. Idakwo worked in various capacities in IHVN.  He was the Team lead in the Global Fund AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria New Funding Model project in Jos Plateau State, the Rivers ACHIEVE Surge Saturation Lead and the COVID-19 response Point of Contact for Rivers State. He is a member of the Rivers HIV/AIDS Incident Command Team, the State Implementation Team for HIV and COVID-19 Surveillance and Response Team, amongst other public health collaborative teams.

His more than a decade of experience includes HIV program implementation in Caritas Nigeria and AIDS Healthcare Foundation. As a public health expert with an interest in implementation science, Dr. Idakwo has peer-reviewed and co-authored many research papers.

Dr. Stanley Idakwo earned a Bachelor of Medicine; and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Madonna University, Elele, Rivers State and proceeded to obtain a Master’s in Public Health from Texila American University, Nicaragua.

He is a Knight in the Order of Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM), Nigeria, is married and has three children. He loves playing football, tennis, snooker, music and traveling.
