Position Overview

The A-STEP study, a pre- and post-interventional study in three Nigerian states. The primary goal

is to develop and pilot and assess the impact of a scalable educational intervention on over-the-counter antibiotic dispensing among pharmacists and patent medicine vendors using standardized

patients to measure the outcome of interest. This study will complement the efforts by the Nigerian

government to reduce microbial resistance in the Nigerian population.

Description and objectives:

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator- A-STEP Study, the Research Assistant (Central) will provide support in the following activities. His or her activities include i). Support data collection from Community Pharmacists and PPMVs ii). Travel to the implementing states to ensure follow-up and compliance of the study population to the protocol iii). Participate and oversee the activities of the Standardized Patients iv). Ensure quality of data and participate with engagement of the relevant

stakeholders v). Support training program, planning and dissemination activities vi). Support all other study related activities as mandated by the Study coordinator and the PI.

Responsibilities:

  • Support data collection from the study population comprising community pharmacists and proprietary patent medicine vendors.
  • Support and participate as Standardized Patients where applicable.
  • Ensure complete, efficient and active follow-up of the selected community pharmacists and PPMVS as the sample population of the study.
  • Support and carry out surveys, interviews, and focused group discussions as applicable within the study.
  • Ensure the quality of data collection and support in the engagement efforts with stakeholders.
  • Support the training program, planning and dissemination of study findings as applicable.
  • Support all other study-related activities as mandated by the Study coordinator.

Required competencies:

Core requirements:

  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring ability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people of different backgrounds.
  • Good communication (oral and written) and facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office – (Word, Spreadsheet, and PowerPoint), other applicable software.

Education and Experience:

  • BSc in any Health or Social Sciences, and Education.
  • At least 1 year of work experience.
  • Soft skills- good communication, Interviewing, Data Collection, Meeting Coordination, data, transcribing audio and video recordings.
