Position Overview

The Resilient HIV Implementation Science with Sexual & Gender Minority Youths using Evidence (RISE) study to evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of the HealthMpowerment (HMP) mobile health application is a new 5-year NIH funded multi-country projected from UMB in collaboration with 5 clinical research performance sites (CRPS) across four countries in sub-Saharan Africa – Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi and Zambia.

Description and objectives:

Play a crucial role in a groundbreaking project focused on improving HIV care and prevention among key populations through digital health interventions. Will work closely with healthcare providers, key population civil society organization, and Study and Data Coordinator to ensure the quality of study data. To be responsible for managing study data collection forms and databases, data entry of paper-based clinical forms into the REDCap study database, and provide trouble-shooting support for the digital health app

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day coordination and management of study-related data and digital health app functioning at the site level.
  • Check for completeness in source documents and consistency between paper-based registers and the REDCap database.
  • Carry out daily manual data checks to verify completeness check for data errors against paper forms.
  • Extract data from participant electronic health records or tablet-based data to REDCap.
  • Ensure completeness, validity, consistency, timeliness, and accuracy of electronic health record data and/or tablet-based data.
  • Evaluate databases and check for inconsistencies, duplicates, or missing data on a weekly basis.
  • Meet monthly with the study statistician to review data and address any issues with data quality, merges, and freezes.
  • Train healthcare staff and key population participants on the use of the digital health app, with support from the Study and Data Coordinator.
  • Ensure that project activities are executed in compliance with ethical guidelines and regulations.
  • Work with the digital health app team to troubleshoot issues.
  • Collaborate with the Study and Data Coordinator and other study team members to collect, manage, and analyze project data.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input on project data.
  • Participate in the review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) established for data management.
  • Lead data collection activities, such as participant enrolment and questionnaires as needed.

Required competencies:

Core requirements:

  • Strong understanding of digital health technologies and their application in healthcare settings.
  • Experience with Microsoft, Excel, Access, MS SQL Server, MySQL, electronic medical record systems, and REDCap
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations related to working with key populations and vulnerable communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and social issues impacting key populations in HIV care and prevention.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field
  • Human subject protection and good clinical practice training.

  1. REACH: Maximize TB case detection in all age groups through active case finding including facility-based screening, contact investigation, community mobilization and screening, and strengthening the TB diagnostic network.
  2. CURE: Support timely treatment initiation, adherence, and completion, especially among DR-TB cases.
  3. PREVENT: Reduce the risk of transmission through expansion of access to TB preventive treatment (TPT), infection control and stigma reduction.
  4. INNOVATE: Incorporate and scale-up new tools and approaches such as digital chest X-rays with computer-aided diagnostics, hotspot mapping and molecular diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor data processes from collection, collation, analysis, reporting and use.

Minimum Requirements

  • A University degree in any of the following or related fields: Medicine, Pharmacy, Natural and Social sciences, Statistics, Public Health and Epidemiology. A master’s degree will be an added advantage. Minimum of 3 years working experience in relevant field.
  • Experience in data collection, processing and use.
  • Experience with Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS programs or related health service programs; experience working with Tuberculosis prevention, diagnosis and treatment and/or impact mitigation programs in the West African context is desirable.
  • Experience with the US Government (USG) and Global Funds Strategic Information system highly desirable.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation practices, methods, tools and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of USG funded monitoring and evaluation programs
  • Knowledge of the reporting framework for Tuberculosis including indicator definitions
  • Knowledge of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme Recording and Reporting tools.

Responsibilities:
The State Team Lead will provide overall leadership, oversight, and advocacy for TB program implementation in the State. Working closely with the National and State TB program teams, s/he will ensure that project objectives and targets are met, while fostering collaboration with stakeholders and partners. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for project implementation in the State, ensuring alignment with national and donor priorities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with State Ministries of Health, Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and key stakeholders, advocating resources and Government ownership of TB programs.
  • Oversee and coordinate all partner and project activities within the State to ensure synergy, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Supervise and mentor state project staff, ensuring high performance, capacity development, and compliance with institutional policies and donor regulations.
  • Monitor State-level progress against work plans and budgets, and escalate implementation challenges for resolution.
