The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) is to have grand opening of its International Research Center of Excellence (IRCE) along airport road in Abuja. The Center, a world class edifice, is to host laboratories like; Immunology and Virology, Molecular Pathology, Clinical and Molecular Diagnostics and Biorepositories.
IHVN Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Patrick Dakum says that, “the goal of the IRCE is to be a partner with the Nigerian government and to research institutes around the country, especially in universities to support them in areas where they lack capacity in diagnostic and also in tools.
We also bring together world-class scientists that will work alongside other scientists here in Nigeria in partnership to advance the frontier of science as far as health care is concerned in Nigeria. It will provide a common world class platform for the implementation of research and clinical trials at international standards,” he said.
The research center, to be opened in June 2020, would also provide opportunities for young Nigerian researchers to develop and execute research projects being mentored by more experienced investigators at IHVN, Nigerian Universities, the Diaspora, and international research institutions and universities.
Under the leadership of Professor Alash’le G. Abimiku, a distinguished scientist herself, the center will create an enabling environment for creative thinking and innovation in science to address Nigeria’s global health priorities.
